John Mayberry is a Professor at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. His office is located in Room 103F of the Classroom Building. He holds a PhD (2008) and MA (2004) in Mathematics from the University of Southern California and a BA (2003) from California State University Fullerton.
Teaching Philosophy
Mayberry emphasizes inquiry-based learning and collaborative problem-solving in mathematics. He adapts pedagogical methods to student needs across all course levels and fosters active classroom engagement to deepen conceptual understanding.
Research Focus
His interdisciplinary work spans biostatistics (cancer evolution modeling with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute), public health (mosquito insecticide resistance with Thiemann Lab), sports analytics (Team USA water polo), orthopedics (St. Joseph's Hospital collaborations), and ecology (gene regulation with Rivera/Hill Labs). He currently contributes to an NIDCR grant on oral healthcare innovation at Pacific's Dugoni School of Dentistry.
Student Mentorship & Projects
He oversees undergraduate research in Markov chain population genetics, disease spread simulations, and sports data systems. Collaborations include psychology studies on post-COVID stressors and urban analytics with Stockton's Performance Analytics Division using police crime data.
