John Marr is a Lecturer in the Department of Music at Santa Ana College, with additional teaching experience at Santiago Canyon College, Cerritos College, Irvine Valley College, Saddleback College, Concordia University of Irvine, Scripps College, Coastline Community College, Bethesda Christian University, Union College of California, and Vietnamese Theological Seminary.
Education:
- Studied piano with Mary Mark Zeyen
- Studied composition with Lloyd Rodgers and Peter Boyer at California State University, Fullerton
His research spans diverse areas including Music Composition, Electronic Music, and Anime Soundtracks, with a focus on integrating Vocaloids/Utauloids into musical works and exploring West-African/Latin percussion techniques. He actively contributes to music education through the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.
Scientific Awards:
- Outstanding Achievement in Composition-Master's of Music
As an academic, Marr has presented panels on anime composers like Yuki Kajiura and Joe Hisaishi at conventions and served as Artist in Residence for The Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts Educational Outreach Program. He performs in new music festivals and leads the “alt-classical” ensemble Brother Mallard, dedicated to contemporary music.
