John M. Kelley is a Professor of Psychology at Endicott College's School of Social Sciences, Communication, and Humanities. He also serves as Deputy Director of the Program in Placebo Studies and Therapeutic Encounter at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and as a Lecturer on Medicine at Harvard Medical School. With a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Oregon and a Harvard University bachelor's degree, Kelley bridges clinical psychology and neuroscience to explore the interplay between mind and body in healthcare.

Kelley's research focuses on placebo/nocebo effects and how patient-clinician relationships influence medical and psychiatric outcomes. His work spans chronic pain, functional gastrointestinal disorders, and neurobiological mechanisms of therapeutic interactions, often utilizing fMRI hyperscanning to study interpersonal neural dynamics.
Recent publications highlight his expertise in placebo-controlled trials, expectancy effects, and nonverbal communication in medical settings. His research has been funded by prestigious organizations including the National Institutes of Health, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and Harvard-affiliated institutions.
Kelley teaches foundational psychology courses at Endicott College, including General Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, and Statistics for Social Sciences. He also contributes to mathematics education through Probability and Applied Statistics courses.
