John Liu is a Professor in the Department of Accounting, Finance, Insurance & Risk Management at the Scott College of Business, Indiana State University. His research focuses on antitrust law, corporate finance, contract remedies, and risk management. He holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University (2005), an M.A. from Peking University (1996), and a B.A. from Wuhan University (1993).
His scholarly work spans topics like antitrust enforcement in China, corporate demand for insurance, and legal-economic analysis of contract damages. Recent publications include studies on anticorruption policy impacts and law enforcement efficiency. Liu has presented at global conferences such as the Midwest Economics Association and the American Law & Economics Association.
Awarded multiple grants including the ISU University Research Committee Grant (2020-2022), he also serves on university committees including the Faculty Senate and Asian Pacific Islander Faculty Council. His administrative roles include Chair of the Faculty Senate Student Affairs Committee and Commencement Banner Carrier for his college.
Key contributions include analyses of vertical restraints in China’s markets and the role of competition in insurance demand. He has advised Chinese student organizations and contributed to policy discussions through collaborative research projects with institutions like Tsinghua University and Shandong University.
