John Krakauer

John Krakauer is the John C. Malone Professor of Neurology, Neuroscience, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is affiliated with the Department of Neurology and holds joint appointments in Neuroscience and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. His research is supported by multiple graduate programs including the Biomedical Engineering Program and the Neuroscience Training Program.

Dr. Krakauer's research focuses on human sensorimotor learning and motor recovery after brain injury. His work emphasizes the modular architecture of motor control, combining psychophysics, computational modeling, functional brain imaging, non-invasive brain stimulation, and studies of neurological patients. A major focus of his lab is understanding motor impairment after stroke—the leading cause of disability in the United States—using quantitative motion analysis, structural and functional imaging, robotics, and novel neurorehabilitation approaches.
