John Kelly, Jr., MD, MPH is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine at Loma Linda University's School of Medicine. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Shepherd University (1996), a Doctor of Medicine (2000), and a Master of Public Health (2002), both from Loma Linda University.
His research focuses on lifestyle medicine, emphasizing dietary interventions for diabetes management, medication deprescribing, and preventive healthcare strategies. Key projects include randomized controlled trials of plant-based diets for type 2 diabetes and protocols for reducing medication reliance. He has contributed to expert consensus statements and guidelines on lifestyle medicine competencies, primary care integration, and diabetes remission.
He led a grant-funded study on diabetes interventions in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (2009–2010). His work bridges clinical practice, education, and policy, advocating for evidence-based lifestyle interventions to improve health outcomes globally.
