Dr. John Jensen is a Professor in the Department of History and Philosophy at the University of West Florida. He specializes in maritime history, historic preservation, and marine archaeology, focusing on the interplay between people and waterways. His professional experience spans 25 years in coastal community heritage preservation.
Education:
- B.A. in History, Lawrence University
- M.A. in Maritime History & Underwater Archaeology, East Carolina University
- M.A. in History & Policy, Carnegie Mellon University
- Ph.D. in Social History, Carnegie Mellon University
Research Interests: Jensen’s work bridges applied history, marine archaeology, and policy. He explores coastal communities’ cultural heritage, fisheries, and the historical connections between humans and oceans. His collaborations include museum exhibitions like NOAA’s “Exploring the Shipwreck Century” and Mystic Seaport’s “Sea Dogs! Great Tails of the Sea.”
