John J. McGlone is a Professor in the Department of Animal and Food Sciences at Texas Tech University. He maintains an active research program focused on farm animal welfare, behavior, and physiology, particularly in pigs, dogs, and cats. His work explores pheromone-based behavioral therapy to enhance animal performance, health, and welfare.
- Education: B.S. (1977), M.S. (1979) in Animal Science with a minor in Neuroscience from Washington State University; Ph.D. (1981) in Animal Science with a minor in Neural and Behavioral Biology from the University of Illinois.
- Research Interests: Animal behavior, neuroscience, immunology, stress physiology, and pheromone biology.
- Awards: Frank Guggenheim Fellow, long-term AAALAC International membership.
- Administrative Roles: Former Director of the Pork Industry Institute (PII), Institute of Comparative and Experimental Medicine (ICEM), and Institutional Official for Animal Care and Use at Texas Tech (2007-2018).
His research has driven industry changes in sow housing, transportation, castration, and pheromone applications. Former graduate students hold prominent faculty positions in agricultural universities.
