John J. DiIulio, Jr.

John J. DiIulio, Jr., PhD, is the Frederic Fox Leadership Professor of Politics, Religion, and Civil Society at the University of Pennsylvania. He serves as Faculty Director of the Partnership for Innovation, Cross-Sector Collaboration, Leadership, and Organization (PICCLO). His academic roles include founding directorships at Penn's Robert A. Fox Leadership Program, Fox Leadership International (FLI), and the Program for Research on Religion and Urban Civil Society (PRRUCS). He also established three degree-granting programs: International MPA, Global MPA, and Leadership & Communication, bridging the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) and the College of Liberal and Professional Studies (LPS).

Education: B.A. (Economics and Political Science) and M.A. (Political Science-Public Policy) from the University of Pennsylvania in 4 years; PhD in Political Science from Harvard University. Career highlights include tenure at Princeton University, leadership roles in its MPA program, and founding research centers at Brookings Institution and other think tanks. He advised presidential administrations (G.W. Bush and Obama) and co-founded programs addressing educational equity for low-income children and public-private partnerships for underserved communities.

Research interests focus on religion's role in civil society, leadership development, and cross-sector collaboration. Recent initiatives include a decade-long study on eldercare in China (launched 2016) and the "Spirited Debate" program (2024), promoting civil discourse through religious institutions. Awards include the David N. Kershaw Award for policy contributions and multiple teaching honors at Penn.
