John Howard Long is Professor of Biology and Cognitive Science at Vassar College, holding the John Guy Vassar Chair. His interdisciplinary research combines biomechanics, robotics, and evolutionary biology to study vertebrate locomotion. Collaborating with institutions like Duke University and Shriners Hospital, he employs robotics and physics-based simulations to reconstruct early vertebrate evolution.
His work has been funded by the National Science Foundation and Office of Naval Research, with undergraduates contributing significantly to international publications and presentations.
