John Hamlyn is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. His research focuses on endogenous ouabain, calcium metabolism, vascular function, and their roles in hypertension, heart failure, and kidney injury. He is a full member of the Graduate School and the NIH training program in Integrative Membrane Biology.
Research Interests: Dr. Hamlyn investigates the molecular and physiological mechanisms of endogenous ouabain in blood pressure regulation, acute kidney injury, and brain function. His work spans from basic biochemistry to clinical applications, exploring how ouabain interacts with sodium pumps and signaling pathways in cardiovascular and neurological contexts.
Publications: His recent studies highlight ouabain's role in hypertension, kidney injury, and neuroendocrine pathways. Collaborative work with clinical and basic science teams has advanced understanding of ouabain's biosynthesis and its implications in salt-sensitive diseases.
