John Grobey

John Grobey served as a Professor in the Department of Economics at Cal Poly Humboldt for 34 years (1967-2001), where he taught Natural Resources Economics among other subjects. He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Washington and held a graduate degree in forestry. Dr. Grobey headed the Economic Research Institute at Humboldt and received a grant from the Timber Association to conduct an economic analysis of California's statewide timber industry.

Beyond academia, he was deeply involved in veteran's activities, serving as a Navy SEAL and participating in local Veterans Honor Guard. He chaired the Humboldt County Republican Central Committee from 1982-1985 and maintained connections with military communities, notably pinning the SEAL Trident on a former student at Coronado graduation. Dr. Grobey passed away on May 18, 2021.
