Dr. John Gaffey is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the Centre for Law and Justice, Charles Sturt University. He serves as Justice Studies Discipline Lead for undergraduate programs and has held leadership roles as Justice Studies Course Director (2011–2013, 2016–2017). His teaching includes courses on criminological theory, gender and crime, and media representations of crime.

John’s research examines crime-media dynamics, focusing on risk communication authority, post-truth discourse, and policing during natural disasters. His work bridges experiential knowledge and expert narratives in media environments. Recent studies analyze online safety regulations and police-community interactions during crises.
