Norwegian University of Science And Technologyمعرفی
John Eilif Hermansen serves as a Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) within the Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management under the Faculty of Economics and Management. His work bridges industrial systems with ecological imperatives through extensive research collaborations including the WTO, UNEP, and Oxford University's Technology and Management Center for Development.
Hermansen's research spans Sustainable Development, Environmental Policy, and Industrial Ecology, with particular focus on circular economy transitions, environmental goods agreements, and sustainable resource management. His methodology integrates stakeholder perspectives through ecological indicators and mediating frameworks, notably applied in Tanzanian forest ecosystems and Norwegian industrial contexts.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications reveals dominant trends in circular economy implementation (construction, plastics, aquaculture), renewable energy policy (hydrogen, solar), and sustainability assessment tools (literacy testing, indicators). These works consistently address developing country challenges within global trade frameworks while emphasizing practical implementation barriers.
As a dedicated educator and supervisor, Hermansen has guided over 50 master's theses since 2008, fostering expertise in sustainable business practices across diverse contexts from Myanmar's TVET systems to Ghana's solar industry. His collaborative projects include Foreign Ministry-funded WTO studies (2014-15) and UNEP Environment and Trade Hub initiatives (2018-19) that directly informed global environmental goods negotiations.
Hermansen's operational work extends to field applications including the Mt. Kilimanjaro forest ecosystem mediation framework and Norwegian industrial case studies with Hydro Aluminium and Norske Skog. His approach consistently links theoretical industrial ecology concepts with actionable sustainability metrics for both corporate and policy applications.
