John Denning

John Denning, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Medicine, affiliated with the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. His academic focus spans the Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences department, with expertise in neuropsychology and clinical assessment.

• Education: B.A. in Biology from Furman University; M.S. in Experimental Psychology (Behavioral Neuroscience) from Villanova University; Ph.D. in Clinical/Medical Psychology (Neuropsychology) from Louisiana State University.
• Clinical Training: Pre-doctoral internship at University of Mississippi/DVA Consortium (Jackson, MS); Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (Baltimore, MD).

Dr. Denning’s research centers on performance validity testing in veterans with cognitive complaints, aiming to develop efficient cognitive screening tools and novel statistical methods for validity measures. His clinical work includes outpatient and inpatient neuropsychological assessments, with a focus on mTBI, cognitive effects of psychiatric disorders, and Mild Cognitive Impairment/Dementia. He previously served as Neuropsychology Track supervisor for the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine/DVA Clinical Psychology Internship Consortium (2006-2014) at Tennessee Valley Healthcare System.
