John Damiao is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of Occupational Therapy at Pace University's College of Health Professions. His academic career spans roles in teaching, research, and leadership in occupational therapy and assistive technology. He holds a PhD in Health Related Sciences from Virginia Commonwealth University (2020), an MS in Occupational Therapy from Dominican College (2009), and an AS in Occupational Therapy Assistant from Union County College (2000).
Dr. Damiao’s research focuses on assistive technology innovations, sensory processing interventions, and neuro-rehabilitation. His work bridges clinical practice with technological advancements, such as 3D-printed orthoses and seating systems. He has led projects like the indieGo initiative, supported by a $1.5M Google Impact Challenge grant, and contributed to peer-reviewed journals in occupational therapy and health sciences.
His awards include the 2021 Dean’s Award for Outstanding Teaching and the 2017 Dominican College Alumni Hall of Achievement. He actively serves on Pace’s Tenure and Promotion Committee and Institutional Review Board. Presentations at AOTA and ATIA conferences highlight his contributions to sensory processing, mobility solutions, and technology in therapy.
Dr. Damiao’s professional memberships include the American Occupational Therapy Association and New York State Occupational Therapy Association. His work emphasizes translating research into practical tools for improving patient outcomes and accessibility.
