John Dainton is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Liverpool, specializing in high-energy particle physics and accelerator science. His affiliations include the Cockcroft Institute for Accelerator Science and Technology, which he co-founded in 2004, and leadership roles in major international collaborations including the H1 experiment at DESY and CERN's NA62 experiment.
His research focuses on high energy electron-proton interactions, rare hadron decays, and accelerator physics, with significant contributions to diffractive deep-inelastic scattering studies at HERA. Current projects include semiconductor detector development and lepton flavor universality tests through kaon decays.
Recent publications demonstrate sustained leadership in HERA data analysis and NA62 instrumentation, spanning quantum chromodynamics, diffractive processes, and detector technology. Key trends show deep integration of theoretical frameworks with experimental validation in collider physics.
