John D. Cohen is an Adjunct Professor in Georgetown University's Security Studies Program and a Senior Expert on Global Threats at Argonne National Laboratory. He previously served as Distinguished Professor of Professional Practice in Criminal Justice at Rutgers University School of Arts and Sciences, where he directed the Center for Critical Intelligence Studies. Cohen holds extensive experience in law enforcement, counter-intelligence, and homeland security, including roles as Acting Under-Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis at DHS, and Senior Advisor to the Director of National Intelligence. His research focuses on mass casualty attacks, cybercrime, and the impact of technology on national security.
His career includes service as a Special Agent with the Office of Naval Intelligence, Police Detective in Gardena, CA, and Senior Policy Advisor to the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. Cohen has advised governors Mitt Romney and Janet Napolitano on homeland security matters and appears frequently on ABC News as an expert analyst.
