John Coffee is the Adolf A. Berle Professor of Law at Columbia Law School, where he has been affiliated since 1980. He previously served as a professor at Georgetown University Law Center (1976–1980) and held visiting professorships at Harvard, Stanford, University of Virginia, and University of Michigan Law Schools.
- Education: B.A. from Amherst (1966), LL.B. from Yale (1969), LL.M. (Taxation) from New York University (1976).
Research Interests focus on corporations, securities regulation, class actions, criminal law, and white-collar crime. His recent work explores ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) disclosures, hedge fund activism, and global financial litigation.
