Dr. John Christopher Maize is a Professor of Dermatology and Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He holds dual board certifications in Dermatology and Dermatopathology. His academic roles include former Chair of the Department of Dermatology at MUSC and Managing Director of Dermpath Diagnostics' Maize Center for Dermatopathology (2003–2012). He has served in leadership positions, including President of the American Society of Dermatopathology and International Society of Dermatopathology, and Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Dermatopathology.
Dr. Maize’s education includes a medical degree from the University of Michigan School of Medicine, followed by a dermatology residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center and a dermatopathology fellowship at New York University Medical Center.
His research focuses on bullous diseases, mycosis fungoides, and pigmented lesions. With over 150 publications and international speaking engagements, he is a prominent figure in dermatology and dermatopathology. He has also contributed to academic governance through roles on the American Board of Dermatology and the ACGME Board of Directors.
His professional affiliations include MUSC Health Dermatology at Rutledge Tower, and he has been involved in training programs as Director of the Dermatology Residency and Dermatopathology Fellowship.
