John Caskey is the Joseph Wharton Professor of Economics at Swarthmore College. He has been a faculty member since 1990, teaching Introductory Economics, Urban Economics, and Financial Economics. Caskey holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University and a B.A. in Philosophy from Harvard University.

Research Interests:
John Caskey's research focuses on Financial Economics and Urban Economics, particularly the delivery of financial services to lower-income households in the U.S. His work examines credit unions, payday lenders, and community development financial institutions. He also investigates urban development patterns in Philadelphia and the fiscal sustainability of liberal arts colleges.
Recent Publications:
Caskey's recent working papers analyze long-term spending trends in liberal arts colleges, fiscal challenges in the Chester Upland School District, and the socioeconomic factors contributing to poverty in Chester, Pennsylvania. His 2013 manuscript traces the evolution of a community development organization.
Professional Experience:
Before joining Swarthmore, Caskey taught at Washington University in St. Louis and served as a visiting professor at Yale and the Wharton School. He has worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund and as a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Banks of Kansas City and Philadelphia.
