John Calvert, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of History at Creighton University's College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on Middle East history, particularly the Muslim Brotherhood, jihadi groups, and British discourses on Pan-Islamism (1880-1914). He has authored significant works including Sayyid Qutb and the Origins of Radical Islamism and Islamism: A Sourcebook and Reference Guide.

His research explores the intersection of Islamic heritage, political ideology, and cultural confrontation. His scholarship has received recognition from The Atlantic Monthly, Foreign Policy, and The Guardian.
Scientific awards include the Casper Professorship (2007-2013), Dean’s Award for Scholarship (2011), and Mentorship Award from the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission (2008). Courses taught include 'Islam and the World,' 'History of Modern Egypt,' and 'Palestine and the Arab-Israeli Conflict.'
