John Callanan is Reader in the History of Philosophy (equivalent to Associate Professor) in the Department of Philosophy at King's College London. His research focuses on Kant's critical philosophy and early modern thought, particularly epistemology and metaphysics.
Education includes:

- M.Litt from University College Dublin (1999)
- Undergraduate degree from University College Dublin
Research examines Kant's Critique of Pure Reason, his moral philosophy, and historical context within Enlightenment debates. Special interests include Kant's theories of reason, spontaneity of mind, methodological conservatism, and comparisons with philosophers like Mendelssohn and Strawson. Recent publications analyze Kant's views on suicide, animal cognition, and transcendental boundaries.
His scholarly output demonstrates consistent focus on Kant's epistemology, ethics, and philosophical method. Publications explore Kant's responses to skepticism, nativism debates, and the acquisition of concepts.
