John C. Mitchell is the Mary and Gordon Crary Family Professor at Stanford University, with formal appointments in the School of Engineering (Computer Science) and courtesy professorships in Electrical Engineering and Education. He previously served as Stanford's Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning and Chair of the Computer Science Department, leading initiatives like the Year of Learning and co-directing the Lytics Lab, Carta Lab, and Pathways Lab.
His research spans programming languages, computer security and privacy, blockchain, machine learning, and technology for education. Recent work focuses on CS1 pedagogy, remote learning, and blockchain security, leveraging data-driven methods and NLP to improve educational outcomes.
