John Buley is a Professor of the Practice at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, serving as Advisory Committee Chair for the Impact Investing Initiative of CASE and a member of Duke's Energy Initiative and EDGE Advisory Board. He joined Duke in 2012 after a career in banking at JPMorgan. His teaching focuses on Project Finance, Energy Finance, Corporate Restructuring, and Social Entrepreneurship.

Research interests include impact investing, private capital markets, and corporate governance. His professional experience spans roles such as Head of Principal Investing at Social Finance (J.P. Morgan), Chairman of JPM Mezzanine Capital, and Head of Capital Markets at a regional bank. He has advised over 20 private companies and managed portfolios exceeding $1 billion.
Advisory roles include Senior Advisor at Lincoln International and board memberships across financial institutions. He has contributed to merger integrations and held leadership in risk committees at Bank One and Chase Capital Corporation.
