Professor John Buckley is a leading academic in Military History at the University of Wolverhampton, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts, Business, and Social Sciences and the Department of History, Politics and War Studies. His work focuses on World War II, with particular emphasis on British Army operations, air power developments, and the Northwest European Campaign (1944-1945).
- Education: BA (Hons) in History (1988) and PhD (1991) from Lancaster University.
- Appointments: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (1992-2004), Reader (2004-2007), and Professor (2007-present).
Buckley's research explores the intersection of military doctrine, technology, and operational effectiveness, with published works covering topics such as the Royal Air Force's evolution, artillery utilization in Normandy, and the culture of the Territorial Army. His recent projects include the Air, Space and Cyber Power Masters Programme funded by the UK Ministry of Defence (2019-2025).
Buckley has supervised numerous postgraduate research projects on WWII-related themes, including medical corps operations, air force development, and combat stress analysis. He contributes to academic discourse through editorial roles, including membership on the British Journal of Military History editorial board since 2018.
