John Bridge is a Professor in the Mechanical Engineering program at the University of Washington, School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics. A former Lt. Colonel and mechanical engineer in the U.S. Air Force with over 20 years of R&D experience, he has worked on aerospace vehicles, advanced materials characterization at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and synthetic sports surfaces. His expertise spans fracture/fatigue of metals/ceramics, advanced composites, and thermal-mechanical analysis.
- Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Maine
- M.S. in Materials Engineering from the University of Dayton
- B.S. in Engineering Mechanics from the United States Air Force Academy
Dr. Bridge's research focuses on materials failure analysis, synthetic granular composites for sports surfaces, and polymer binder characterization. He collaborates with the Racetrack Surfaces Testing Laboratory in Orono, Maine, and Lab/Cor Materials in Seattle. His teaching portfolio includes foundational and advanced courses such as Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Fracture Mechanics, and Senior Design Projects.
