John Behr is a Research Scientist at TRIUMF and an Adjunct Faculty member in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of British Columbia. His work focuses on precision tests of the Standard Model using laser trapping techniques for radioactive atoms.
- Education: B.Sc. in Physics (Caltech, 1983), Ph.D. in Physics (University of Washington, 1991)
- Employment: Postdoc at SUNY Stony Brook and Simon Fraser University before joining TRIUMF
Dr. Behr’s research in Particle & Nuclear Physics centers on subatomic experiments probing electroweak interactions. His TRINAT facility at TRIUMF uses laser traps to study beta decay asymmetries, neutrino momentum distributions, and tests for parity and time-reversal symmetry violations. Recent work includes precision measurements of the weak interaction’s handedness and explorations of radiative beta decay correlations.
His selected publications reflect advancements in neutral atom trapping methodologies and fundamental symmetry tests. Collaborative graduate research opportunities are available through TRIUMF and the University of British Columbia, as well as Texas A&M University in the U.S.
