Professor John Barry is a leading academic in green political theory and sustainability studies at Queen's University Belfast, where he holds a professorship in the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics. He directs the Centre for Sustainability, Equality and Climate Action and is an associate member of the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice. His research focuses on the political, ethical, and cultural dimensions of the climate crisis, post-growth economies, and low-carbon transitions. Barry advocates for transformative policies that address ecological breakdown through interdisciplinary approaches, including civic republicanism and radical political economy.
