John Barile is a Professor of Psychology and Associate Dean for Research at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s College of Social Sciences. He serves as Director of the Social Science Research Institute and Senior Advisor for the Health Policy Initiative, focusing on interdisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based policy development.

His research examines ecological determinants of health disparities, particularly the impact of neighborhood stress, trauma, and poverty on marginalized communities. Methodologically, he combines advanced quantitative techniques with participatory approaches to develop systemic solutions.
Barile collaborates with the Hawai‘i Department of Health, CDC, NIH, and NSF-funded programs, prioritizing community-driven health and educational initiatives. As Associate Dean, he supports faculty in securing grants and expanding research impact.
