John Baranoff

Dr. John Baranoff is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Adelaide. He maintains an active role in teaching, research, and clinical supervision across various mental health settings.

His research interests span several key areas in clinical psychology, with a strong emphasis on practical applications that inform psychological practice. Dr. Baranoff employs primarily cognitive behavioral frameworks in his clinical work, complemented by specialized training in acceptance and commitment therapy and schema therapy.

• Cognitive behavioural therapy for Anxiety and Mood Disorders: Research on anxiety, early maladaptive schemas and depressive symptoms, health anxiety in internet use, and cognitive behavioral stress management
• Persistent Pain: Studies on psychological processes in pain treatment, pelvic pain interventions, and opioid misuse in pain contexts
• Arts-health interventions: Projects using creative approaches alongside traditional therapies like CBT
• Sport Injury Rehabilitation: Development of ACT-based interventions for athletes in long-term rehabilitation

Dr. Baranoff is eligible to supervise both Master's and PhD students, with current projects focusing on obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders, and music performance anxiety interventions. His clinical expertise includes chronic anxiety and depression treatment, particularly for individuals with health-related anxiety.
