معرفی
John B. Rundle is a Distinguished Professor at the University of California, Davis, holding joint appointments in the Departments of Physics and Earth and Planetary Sciences. His research focuses on complex systems, particularly geophysical phenomena like earthquakes, and their analogies to economic systems. He is affiliated with the W.M. Keck Center for Active Visualization in the Earth Sciences (KeckCAVES).
Education: Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California, Los Angeles (1976).
Research Interests: Dr. Rundle applies statistical physics and nonlinear dynamics to study earthquakes, phase transitions, and first-order system collapses. He pioneered methods for earthquake forecasting using chaos theory and large-scale simulations. Recently, he explores 'econoquakes'—financial crashes modeled after seismic events.
Awards:
- Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (2008)
- NASA Software of the Year (2012) for Quake Sim
- Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2017)
Grants & Advising: While specific grants or student names are not detailed here, his work involves interdisciplinary teams and computational modeling projects. His lab, KeckCAVES, develops visualization tools for Earth sciences.
