John B. Mulliken

Dr. John B. Mulliken is a Professor of Plastic Surgery at Harvard Medical School and serves as Director of the Craniofacial Centre and co-Director of the Vascular Anomalies Center at Boston Children's Hospital. Internationally recognized as a pioneer in vascular anomalies research, he co-founded the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies and has established himself as a leading authority in cleft lip/palate and craniofacial anomalies as well.

Dr. Mulliken's research spans three primary domains: using direct and 3D stereophotogrammetric anthropometry to monitor nasolabial changes following cleft lip/palate repair; analyzing growth patterns in patients who underwent infant craniosynostosis surgery; and pioneering work in vascular anomalies where he investigates the cellular basis of hemangiomas, genetic causes of vascular malformations, and novel drug treatments. His extensive publication record, with articles extending to 2025, demonstrates ongoing active research in these fields.

His scholarly contributions show a clear trend toward molecular understanding of vascular anomalies, with recent work focusing on propranolol mechanisms, SOX18 pathways, and genetic underpinnings of vascular malformations.
