Johanni Michael Brea

Johanni Michael Brea is a Lecturer and Scientific Collaborator at EPFL, affiliated with the School of Engineering (SV) and the School of Computer and Communication Sciences (IC). He is part of the Neuromimetic Computing Laboratory (LCN1 and LCN2), focusing on interdisciplinary research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and neuroscience.

His teaching responsibilities include courses such as Biological Data Science II: Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence and Society. He advises doctoral students in Life Sciences Engineering, including Gruaz Lucas Louis and Martinelli Flavio.

Brea’s research interests span machine learning, neuro-inspired computing, and the application of AI to biological systems. His work bridges computational neuroscience and engineering, emphasizing neuromimetic approaches to data science and technology.

He is based at EPFL’s AAB Building (AI 2100), with affiliations across multiple departments including IINFCOM (Institute of Neuroinformatics and Computational Sciences) and the BMI (Biomedical Imaging) unit.
