معرفی
Dr. Johannes Krause is an Academic Councilor (akademischer Rat) at the Department of Sociology II, Faculty of Social Sciences, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. He has been a member of the department since 2011 and became part of the management team of the Institute for Social Sciences in 2022. His academic work focuses on two primary research strands: the sociology of physical attractiveness and the study of club culture/music venues in Germany.
Dr. Krause studied social sciences at the University of Cologne, completed his PhD on "Schönheitshandeln" (beauty actions), and earned a part-time MBA in 2019. He is an active member of DIID, Verso, and serves on the scientific staff council. His educational background spans social sciences with minor subjects in empirical social and economic research and economic and social history.
His research on physical attractiveness examines how appearance influences social outcomes including professional success, life satisfaction, and social trust. Through the RAPP (Responsible Academic Performance Prediction) project, he investigates educational trajectories and factors affecting academic success. His work on club culture includes comprehensive studies of music venues in Germany, particularly examining their economic sustainability and the impact of the pandemic on live music ecosystems.
Analysis of Dr. Krause's recent publications reveals a consistent dual focus: his physical attractiveness research spans social psychology, sociology of the body, and labor market studies, while his club culture research contributes to urban sociology, cultural economics, and policy studies. Both research strands demonstrate methodological sophistication combining quantitative analysis of large datasets with qualitative approaches.
Dr. Krause leads the RAPP project and has been instrumental in conducting comprehensive studies of Germany's music venue ecosystem, including the influential "Clubstudie" published in 2021. His research often involves interdisciplinary collaboration with scholars across sociology, economics, and cultural studies, resulting in publications in journals like Kölner Zeitschrift für Soziologie und Sozialpsychologie and Standort.
He is actively involved in academic governance through his role on the scientific staff council and contributes to the management of the Institute for Social Sciences. His MBA background informs his approach to research management and institutional analysis within higher education, providing a unique perspective that bridges sociological theory with practical applications for policy and institutional development.
Dr. Krause's work on music venues is closely connected to the "Clubs und Clubkultur" research group, which has produced significant empirical studies on Germany's live music ecosystem. His research on physical attractiveness is developed through collaborations with scholars like Ulrich Rosar and Roman Althans, resulting in multiple publications and an edited volume on the social effects of physical attractiveness.
