Johanna Forster is an Associate Professor in Environment and Global Development at the University of East Anglia, affiliated with the School of Global Development. She also serves as the Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Civic) and is a member of key research centers including the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, Water Security Research Centre, and the Global Environmental Justice Research Group.

Her research focuses on environmental governance, climate change, marine and coastal management, and resilience in Small Island Developing States. She integrates social, ecological, and economic perspectives to understand decision-making and governance in the face of environmental hazards. Her work emphasizes community perceptions, sustainable fisheries, and civic engagement in climate adaptation.
Her recent publications highlight trends in climate adaptation, heritage loss due to sea-level rise, participatory governance, and gender equity in aquatic food systems. These works reflect interdisciplinary collaboration and policy relevance, often involving field research in the Caribbean and Pacific.

Johanna supervises undergraduate and postgraduate projects and teaches modules on climate change, natural resources, and development. She is also actively involved in public outreach and media engagement on climate and sustainability issues.
