Johan Vorland Wibye

Johan Vorland Wibye is an Associate Professor in the Department of Law and Governance at BI Norwegian Business School. He serves as the Norwegian Editor of Retfærd - Nordic Journal of Law and Justice. His current teaching responsibilities include Administrative Law (JUR3550), EEA Law (JUR3545), Legal Philosophy (JUR4123), and PhD philosophy of science, scientific theory and research methods (JUR9010).

Wibye holds a PhD from the University of Oslo (2020) and a Master of Laws from both the University of Oxford and the University of Oslo. His educational background demonstrates a strong foundation in legal theory and practice across both Norwegian and international contexts.

His research focuses on the intersection of administrative law, human rights law and legal theory. He is particularly interested in analytical rights theory and its application to doctrinal interpretation. His more recent publications explore legal conflicts, correlativity, positive and negative human rights, legitimacy attribution, the scope of administrative legal powers, the philosophy of contract law, and environmental litigation.

Wibye's scholarly work reveals a consistent focus on theoretical foundations of law with practical applications in administrative contexts. His publications demonstrate expertise in both Norwegian legal contexts and broader European frameworks, particularly in human rights and administrative law. He has made significant contributions to understanding the conceptual frameworks of rights and duties in legal systems.

He is currently involved in the HENSIKT project funded by Arbeids- og velferdsdirektoratet, which examines appropriateness in section 12-5 of the Norwegian National Insurance Act from a NAV perspective.
