معرفی
Johan N. Lundström is a Professor at Karolinska Institutet's Department of Clinical Neuroscience, leading the Perception Neuroscience research group. His work focuses on understanding the neural and behavioral functions of the olfactory system, particularly how it interacts with other senses in health and disease. He holds a PhD in Psychology from Uppsala University (2005) and became a Docent at Karolinska Institutet in 2016.
- Research Interests: Olfactory perception, multisensory integration, Parkinson's disease early detection, and the role of olfactory bulb signals in cognition.
- Key Achievements: Secured a €11.8M ERC Synergy Grant for digital scent transmission (D2Smell), developed non-invasive olfactory bulb measurement techniques, and identified olfactory biomarkers for Parkinson's disease.
His studies explore how olfactory dysfunction impacts perception and cognition, with recent work linking respiratory rhythms to pupil dynamics and cognitive control. Collaborations span neuroimaging, computational modeling, and clinical applications.
- Grants & Awards: Wallenberg Academy Fellow, ERC Synergy Grant, and grants from Swedish Research Council for projects on olfactory plasticity, Parkinson's detection, and post-COVID olfactory loss.
- Advising: Supervised over 10 PhD students, including notable works on olfactory training, congenital anosmia, and multisensory processing.
Lundström's Perception Neuroscience lab integrates clinical, experimental, and computational approaches, aiming to translate findings into diagnostics (e.g., early Parkinson's detection) and therapies for sensory disorders.
