Johan Kihlberg is an Associate Professor in Radiography at Linköping University, affiliated with the Department of Health, Medicine and Caring Sciences (HMV) and the Division of Diagnostics and Specialist Medicine (DISP). He holds roles in academic teaching and research, focusing on optimizing MRI methods for cardiac and liver imaging, enhancing MRI safety, and advancing the role of radiographers in clinical practice. His professional roles include serving as Course Responsible and Examiner for 'Abdominal MRI for Radiographers' since 2023, and as member of the Swedish Alliance for MRI-Safety and the Swedish Contrast Media Group.
Education:
- 1996: Registered Nurse (Uppsala University)
- 1999: Radiographer (Linköping University)
- 2017: PhD in Radiology (Linköping University)
- 2022: Associate Professor (Docent) in Radiography
Research Interests: His research emphasizes improving diagnostic accuracy through advanced MRI techniques, particularly in cardiovascular and hepatic imaging. He explores methods to reduce scan time, enhance patient safety, and optimize radiographer expertise. Key themes include MRI safety protocols, imaging logistics, and translational applications of MRI for clinical diagnostics.
Publications: Over 20 peer-reviewed articles (2017-2025) focus on MRI method development, radiographer competency, and cardiovascular/liver disease imaging. Recent work addresses MR safety guidelines, hepatic steatosis detection, and atherosclerosis biomarkers.
Awards and Grants: No specific awards listed, but active in collaborative projects like the SCAPIS study and the NACOX cohort study on ACL injury recovery.
Labs & Teams: Member of the Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Group and the Center for Medical Image Science and Visualization (CMIV), contributing to interdisciplinary imaging research.
