Johan Alexander Huisman is a Professor and Head of the Vadose Zone Hydrogeophysics research group at the Agrosphere Institute (IBG-3), part of the Institute for Bio- and Geosciences at Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany.
His research focuses on hydrogeophysical methods for subsurface characterization, with emphasis on:
- Vadose zone process monitoring using minimally-invasive geophysical techniques
- Development of spectral induced polarization (SIP) and electrical impedance tomography (EIT) for soil property characterization
- Frequency-dependent electrical properties analysis for pore-fluid chemistry and saturation assessment
- Modular electromagnetic induction systems for precision agriculture applications
- Pore-scale investigation of salt precipitation and root exudation via x-ray computed tomography
The research group collaborates with ZEA-2 to advance instrumentation and applies these methods to sustainable soil and water management challenges in agricultural contexts.
