Joerg Sander is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Science. His research focuses on knowledge discovery in databases, particularly density-based clustering (e.g., DBSCAN, OPTICS, HDBSCAN*) and outlier detection (e.g., LOF). He is a leading contributor to foundational algorithms in data mining, including the DBSCAN paper which received the 2014 SIGKDD Test-of-Time Award.
