Joelle Godard is an Academic Tutor at the University of Sunderland, specializing in English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), and French Language and Culture. She has been with the University since 2010 and contributes to the Distance Learning MA program. Previously, she served as Head of Faculty (Languages and Humanities) at Sunderland College. Her extensive teaching career spans schools, colleges, universities, and corporate training across multiple countries.
Godard holds a BA in French and Latin from the University of Montpellier, France, and advanced degrees in Linguistics and Theoretical English from Newcastle University. She is qualified as a teacher with a PGCE in Modern Languages and certifications like CELTA and DELTA.
Her research focuses on French and English linguistics, TESOL methodology, syntax, and intercultural communication. She supervises undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations in French and TESOL, and mentors students participating in the Year Abroad program in France.
