Joel Weissman

Joel Weissman is an Associate Professor of Sculpture at Ramapo College of New Jersey since 2015. He earned an M.F.A. from Syracuse University (2013), a Post-Baccalaureate degree from the University of Montana (2009), and a B.F.A. in Ceramics from Montana State University (2008).

• Research focuses on memory, identity, authority, and place within postindustrial urban landscapes.
• Interdisciplinary practice spans sculpture, ceramics, street art, video, photography, cast iron, and digital fabrication.
• Created the Syracuse China Tattoo Archive, a community-driven 'Counter Monument' project exploring material culture's role in social history.

His work has been exhibited nationally, including solo shows at Ramapo College’s Kresge Gallery (2017) and installations at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark (2016). He received a Curatorial Award (2009) for his clay work at the University of Montana.

Weissman has taught at Oxbow School of Art and Syracuse University, with courses in sculpture, metal casting, and digital fabrication.
