Joel Shuman, Ph.D., is a Professor of Theology at King’s College and Director of the McGowan Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility. His academic work bridges moral theology with medicine and applied sciences, reflecting a unique background in physical therapy and theological ethics.
- Education: B.S. in Physical Therapy (Medical College of Virginia), M.T.S. (Duke University Divinity School), Ph.D. in Theological Ethics (Duke University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences)
His research focuses on bioethics, particularly the opioid crisis, reproductive ethics, and diseases of despair during the pandemic. He explores intersections between theology, literature, and medical ethics, emphasizing narrative approaches to moral education.
Recent publications span interdisciplinary topics in Christian Bioethics, including pain management, parenting ethics, and societal impacts of public health crises. His work integrates theological frameworks with contemporary medical and social challenges.
