Joel Mejia is a Professor and Department Head at the University of Cincinnati's Department of Engineering and Computing Education. He holds a PhD in Engineering Education and serves as a lead editor for the Journal of Women and Minorities in Science and Engineering. His work focuses on reframing engineering education through antiracist theories and addressing systemic inequities in STEM fields.
His research interests include:
- Engineering Education Equity
- Critical Race Theory in STEM
- Diversity and Inclusion Practices
- Racialized Discourse in Academia
In 2022, he co-authored two influential papers: one on antiracist frameworks in engineering education research and another on challenging institutional silence around race. Both publications appeared in the Journal of Women and Minorities in Science and Engineering.
