Joel Jassu is a part-time Lecturer in the School of Architecture at the College of Design, Georgia Institute of Technology. His expertise spans Urban Design, Green Infrastructure, and Cultural Empathy. He holds a BFA in Architecture from the University of Memphis (2017), and dual Master’s degrees in Architecture (2019) and Urban Design (2020) from Georgia Tech. His work emphasizes equitable development and cross-cultural collaboration, addressing community needs through design projects in the U.S., Uganda, South Sudan, the UK, and Tanzania.
Joel serves as an Urban Design Project Manager at Perkins&Will in Atlanta and co-founded eightvillage, a design consultancy focused on place-based solutions like Backyard ATL, an asset-building initiative for lower-income residents. He has contributed to global initiatives such as the Lake Victoria Challenge and the Droneport project in Tanzania, exploring hybrid technologies for indigenous storytelling. Recognized for his contributions, Joel was nominated for Georgia Tech’s prestigious 2021 '40 Under 40' award.
His professional roles include service on Georgia Tech’s Institute Planning and Design Commission and multiple executive boards supporting vulnerable communities. He advocates for sustainable communities through projects balancing cultural awareness with environmental and social equity.
