Joel Hartter is an Associate Professor in the Environmental Studies Program at the University of Colorado. His research focuses on human dimensions of global change, including artisanal gold mining in Colombia and Peru, land use dynamics, population migration, conservation management, and human health. He directs the Masters of the Environment professional graduate degree program.

- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, University of Michigan
Joel has active projects in East and Southern Africa, Madagascar, South America, and the Inland Northwest of the US.
