Dr. Joel Foreman is a Lecturer in the School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering at the University of Sheffield. His primary research focuses on structure-property relationships in epoxy resins and other thermosets, particularly for composite materials applications in aerospace and advanced manufacturing.
Foreman pioneered Group Interaction Modelling (GIM) to predict thermomechanical properties of polymers. His work investigates:
- amine/anhydride-cured epoxy resin properties
- dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) of polymers
- cure monitoring techniques (NIR, DEA)
- fracture toughness mechanisms in thermosets
- VARTM composite processing
- fiber-matrix interactions in polymer composites
