Joe Valentin

Joe Valentin is a Professor of Guitar at the Faculty of Music within the JAM MUSIC LAB Private University for Jazz and Popular Music since 2011. His career spans over three decades in music education and performance, including roles as Managing Director (2011-2020) and Deputy Director (2011-2017) at JAM MUSIC LAB. He holds a Diploma in Jazz Guitar from Vienna’s Prayner Conservatory (1989) and has taught at prestigious institutions like the Gustav Mahler Conservatory (1999-2011) and the Friedrich Gulda School of Music.

His research focuses on Brazilian music styles and jazz pedagogy, culminating in the upcoming publication THE BRAZILIAN MUSIC BOOK. Valentin is an active performer, collaborating with artists like Alegre Corrêa and Reinhard Micko, and has contributed studio guitar work for films by director Wolfram Paulus. His discography includes albums like Life & Soul (2001) and Handmade (1999), showcasing his expertise in ensemble conducting and improvisation.

Valentin’s leadership extends to founding JAM MUSIC LAB GmbH and serving as its shareholder. He has also represented Austria in the EBU Jazz Orchestra and composed music for ORF’s Quizexpress. His teaching philosophy integrates technical mastery with creative expression, reflected in his curriculum development and ensemble leadership roles.
