Joe Ravetz

Joe Ravetz is a Research Fellow at the University of Manchester, leading the Future-wise Cities theme for the Manchester Urban Institute. He holds visiting professorships at the University of Baja California, Mexico, and the University of Brawijaya, Indonesia. His work focuses on sustainable urban development, foresight methodologies, and collective intelligence. He directs the Mind-Lab, a global initiative exploring urban collective intelligence through projects like PERI-CENE and the Foresight 3.0 program.

Research interests include peri-urbanization, climate policy, and transformative pathways for cities. He has led over 70 projects for institutions such as the UN, EU, and UK government agencies. Key roles include Principal of SAMI Consulting and editor for Urban Planning & Design and Foresight journals.

Grants and projects span sustainable urban regeneration, climate-wise policies, and foresight training. Current initiatives include the Mind-Lab’s second phase (2025–2030), focusing on online community platforms and global collaborations. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing systemic approaches to urban challenges.
